اِشْتَرَوْا بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيْلًا فَصَدُّوْا عَنْ سَبِيْلِهٖۗ اِنَّهُمْ سَاۤءَ مَاكَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ( التوبة: ٩ )
ish'taraw
ٱشْتَرَوْا۟
They exchange
biāyāti
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
[with] the Verses of Allah
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
[with] the Verses of Allah
thamanan
ثَمَنًا
(for) a little price
qalīlan
قَلِيلًا
(for) a little price
faṣaddū
فَصَدُّوا۟
and they hinder (people)
ʿan
عَن
from
sabīlihi
سَبِيلِهِۦٓۚ
His way
innahum
إِنَّهُمْ
Indeed
sāa
سَآءَ
evil
mā
مَا
(is) what
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they used to
yaʿmalūna
يَعْمَلُونَ
do
Ishtaraw bi Aayaatil laahi samanan qaleelan fasaddoo 'an sabeelih; innahum saaa'a maa kaanoo ya'maloon (at-Tawbah 9:9)
Sahih International:
They have exchanged the signs of Allah for a small price and averted [people] from His way. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing. (At-Tawbah [9] : 9)

They have taken a paltry price for the verses of Allah, so they have prevented (people) from His path. Indeed, evil is what they have been doing.
