Al-Qiyamah Verse 7

But when the sight is stunned,

But when eyes are dazzled,

But when the sight is dazed

When eyes are dazzled

When, then, the sight shall be confounded.

At length, when the sight is dazed,

When the sight is dazed,

Yet when the eyes are dazzled,

So when the eyes will be blinded by light.

But when the eyes are dazzled,

When the eyesight is confounded (through fear),

(It shall be the day) when the sight (of a person) is confused (and he is confounded for being unable to find the right course).

So if/when the eye sight/vision glared/gleamed/confused and astonished .

So when the eyes will be blinded by light.

So when the sight becomes dazzled,

So, when the sight shall be dazed,

So when the sight is confused,

So when the sight becomes dazed,

But when sight is confounded

When the eye is bewildered,

but when the sight is dazed

So, when Bariqa the sight.

But [on that Day], when mortal sight is confounded,

When vision is dazzled.

But when the eyes are dazzled (read bariqa or baraqa), startled and perplexed upon seeing some of those things which it used to deny;

So, when Bariqa the sight.

Abu `Amr bin Al-`Ala' recited this Ayah as Bariqa with a Kasrah under the letter Ra, which means to be diminished. That which he (Abu `Amr) has said resembles the statement of Allah,

لَا يَرْتَدُّ إِلَيْهِمْ طَرْفُهُمْ

Their gaze returning not towards them. (14;43)

meaning, they will be looking this way and that way in horror. Their gaze will not be able to rest upon anything due to the severity of the terror on that Day.

Others recited it as Baraqa with a Fathah over the letter Ra, and its meaning is close to the first recitation (Bariqa).

The intent here is that the eyes will be dazzled, humbled, diminished, and humiliated on the Day of Judgement due to the severity of the horrors and the greatness of the matters that they will witness on that Day.

Concerning Allah's statement,

وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ
