Al-A'raf Verse 82

But his people’s only response was to say, “Expel them from your land! They are a people who wish to remain chaste!”

The only reply his people gave was to say, “Drive them out of your town, for they are people who keep themselves pure!”

And the only answer of his people was that they said, 'Expel them from your city; surely they are folk that keep themselves clean!'

The only response his people gave was to say [to one another], ‘Drive them out of your town! These men want to keep themselves chaste!’

And naught was the answer of his people save that they said: drive themforth from your city, verily they are a people who would be pure!

And his people gave no answer but this; they said, "Drive them out of your city; these are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!"

Their only answer was: 'Banish them from your town. They are a people who pretend to be pure.'

His people made no answer, and only said: "Drive them out of the city. They profess to be pure."

And his people had no answer except to say, “Turn them out of your dwellings; these are people who wish purity!”

But the only answer of his people was that they said, ‘Expel them from your town! They are indeed a puritanical lot.’

But his people’s response was only that they said (to one another): "Banish them from your settlement, for they are a few persons who make themselves out to be pure!"

His people had no reply to make but that they said (to one another), `Turn them (- Lot and his followers) out of your township, for they are a people who show off to be pure.´

And His nation`s answer/replay was not except that they said: "Bring/drive them out from your village/urban city, that they truly are people purifying ."

And his people had no answer except to say, "Turn them out of your dwellings; these are people who wish purity!"

But his people´s answer was only to say, "Turn them out of your communities. Verily, they are a people who strive to purity."

And the answer of his people was only that they said: "Drive them out of your town, these are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!"

Surely you come to males with lust instead of females. Nay, you are a people exceeding bounds.

And the answer of his people was no other than that they said: Turn them out of your town, surely they are a people who seek to purify (themselves).

And the answer of his people was only that they said (one to another): Turn them out of your township. They are folk, forsooth, who keep pure.

His people had no answer to his remarks but to tell one another, "Expel him from our town; he and his people want to purify themselves."

The only answer of his nation was: 'Expel them from your village. They are people who keep themselves purified'

And the answer of his people was only that they said: "Drive them out of your town, these are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!"

The only answer given by his people was, "Turn them out of your town. They are people who regard themselves to be pure."

And his people's only answer was to say, “Expel them from your town; they are purist people.”

And the response of his people was only that they said, `Expel them, that is, Lt and his followers, from your city. Surely they are folk who would be pure!', from [the abomination of penetrating] the rears of men.

Allah tells;

وَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلاَّ أَن قَالُواْ أَخْرِجُوهُم مِّن قَرْيَتِكُمْ

And the answer of his people was only that they said;"Drive them out of your town, these are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!"

So they answered Prophet Lut by trying to expel and banish him from their village, along with those who believed with him.

Allah indeed removed Prophet Lut safely from among them, and He destroyed them in their land in disgrace and humiliation.

They said (about Lut and the believers);

إِنَّهُمْ أُنَاسٌ يَتَطَهَّرُونَ



"These are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!"

Qatadah commented,

"They shamed them (Lut and the believers) with what is not a shame at all."

Mujahid commented,

"(Lut's people said about Lut and the believers,) They are a people who want to be pure from men's anuses and women's anuses!"
