Al-An'am Verse 120

Shun all sin—open and secret. Indeed, those who commit sin will be punished for what they earn.

Avoid committing sin, whether openly or in secret. Indeed, those who commit sin will be recompensed for what they used to do.

Forsake the outward sin, and the inward surely the earners of sin shall be recompensed for what they have earned.

Avoid committing sin, whether openly or in secret, for those who commit sin will be repaid for what they do,

And leave the outside of sin and the inside thereof; verily those who earn sin, anon will they be requited for that which they were wont to do.

Eschew all sin, open or secret; those who earn sin will get due recompense for their "earnings."

Abstain from sin, be it either open or secret. Indeed those who commit sins shall surely be requited for all they have done.

Discard both the visible and invisible sin. For those who sin will be punished for what they have done.

And give up the open and hidden sins; those who earn sins will soon receive the punishment of their earnings.

Renounce outward sins and the inward ones. Indeed those who commit sins shall be requited for what they used to commit.

Abstain from sinning, whether done in public or secret, (and the intentions and attitudes that accompany either). Indeed, those who record sins to their account will be recompensed for what they have earned.

Refrain from sin in form and its spirit (both). Verily, those who commit sins deliberately shall be repaid according to the deeds committed by them.

And leave (the) apparent/visible (of) the sin/crime, and its hidden/secret , that those who acquire/carry the sin/crime, they will be rewarded/reimbursed with what they were fabricating.

And give up the open and hidden sins; those who earn sins will soon receive the punishment of their earnings.

Forsake the outer and inner (and the open and secret) sin, verily, those who earn sin shall be recompensed for what they have earned.

Leave (O mankind, all kinds of) sin, open and secret. Verily, those who commit sin will get due recompense for that which they used to commit.

And what reason have you that you should not eat of that on which Allah’s name is mentioned, when He has already made plain to you what He has forbidden to you -- excepting that which you are compelled to. And surely many lead (people) astray by their low desires through ignorance. Surely thy Lord -- He best knows the transgressors.

And abandon open and secret sin; surely they who earn sin shall be recompensed with what they earned.

Forsake the outwardness of sin and the inwardness thereof. Lo! those who garner sin will be awarded that which they have earned.

Stay away from both public and secret sins for a sinner will suffer for whatever he has committed.

Forsake the revealed and hidden sin. Those who earn sin shall be recompensed for what they have committed.

Leave sin, open and secret. Verily, those who commit sin will get due recompense for that which they used to commit.) Mujahid said that,

Eschew all sin, open or secret: Those who commit sin will receive due punishment for their sins,

So abandon sin, outward and inward. Those who commit sins will be repaid for what they used to perpetrate.

And forsake, leave, outward aspect of sin and its inward aspect, that is, what is overt of it and what is secret -- it is said that `sin' here means fornication, or, it is said, any act of disobedience; surely those who earn sin shall be requited, in the Hereafter, for what they used to perpetrate, [what] they used to earn.

Allah says;

وَذَرُواْ ظَاهِرَ الاِثْمِ وَبَاطِنَهُ

Leave evil, open and secret...

Mujahid said that,

it refers to all kinds of sins committed in public and secret.

Qatadah said that,
وَذَرُواْ ظَاهِرَ الاِثْمِ وَبَاطِنَهُ
(Leave sin, open and secret...),

encompasses sins committed in public and secret, whether few or many.

In another statement, Allah said,

قُلْ إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّيَ الْفَوَحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ

Say;"(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are Al-Fawahish (evil sins) whether committed openly or secretly. (7;33)

This is why Allah said,

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْسِبُونَ الاِثْمَ سَيُجْزَوْنَ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَقْتَرِفُونَ



Verily, those who commit sin will get due recompense for that which they used to commit.

Whether the sins they committed were public or secret, Allah will compensate them for these sins.

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that An-Nawwas bin Sam`an said,

"I asked Allah's Messenger about Al-Ithm.

He said,

الاِْثمُ مَا حَاكَ فِي صَدْرِكَ وَكَرِهْتَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ النَّاسُ عَلَيْه

The sin is that which you find in your heart and you dislike that people become aware of it.
