Al-Waqi'ah Verse 83

Why then ˹are you helpless˺ when the soul ˹of a dying person˺ reaches ˹their˺ throat,

Then why [you are helpless] when the soul reaches the throat,

Why, but when the soul leaps to the throat of the dying

When the soul of a dying man comes up to his throat

Wherefore then - when the soul cometh up to the wind-pipe -

Then why do ye not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat,-

Why, then, when the soul leaps up to the throat,

Then how is it that when the (dying) breath is withdrawn into the throat (and rattles),

So why was it not, when the soul reaches up to the throat, –

So when it reaches the throat [of the dying person],

Then, how is it you do not – when the soul comes up to the throat (of a dying human),

Why, then, when the soul (of the dying person) reaches the throat,

So if only that the throat/pharynx (the death) reached.

So why was it not, when the soul reaches up to the throat, -

Why then do you not (intervene) when the soul comes up to the throat (of a dying person),

Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat?

And make your denial your means of subsistence.

Why is it not then that when it (soul) comes up to the throat,

Why, then, when (the soul) cometh up to the throat (of the dying)

Why can you not help a soul dying

Why, then, when the soul leaps up to the throat of the dying

Then why do you not (intervene) when it reaches Al-Hulqum

Why, then, when the soul of the dying man reaches the throat,

So when it has reached the throat.

Why then, when it, the spirit, during the throes [of death], reaches the [dying person's] throat (hulqm is the passage for food)

When the Soul reaches the Throat at the Time of Death, it cannot be brought back; this proves Reckoning shall occur

Allah the Exalted said,

فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ



Then why do you not (intervene) when it reaches,

in reference to the soul,

الْحُلْقُومَ


Al-Hulqum,

i.e., the throat, at the time of death.

Allah the Exalted said in other Ayat,

كَلَّ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِىَ

وَقِيلَ مَنْ رَاقٍ

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ

وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ

إِلَى رَبِّكَ يَوْمَيِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ

Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone, and it will be said;

"Who can cure him (and save him from death)"

And he will conclude that it was (the time) of parting (death); And one leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded). The drive will be on that Day to your Lord (Allah). (75;26-30)

Allah said here,

وَأَنتُمْ حِينَيِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ
