Al-Qamar Verse 4

even though the stories ˹of destroyed nations˺ that have already come to them are a sufficient deterrent.

There have already come to them stories [of destroyed nations] that are sufficient to deter them,

And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent --

although warning tales that should have restrained them have come down to them––

And assuredly there hath come Unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent.

There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them),

Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression),

Messages deterring them from evil had come to them,

And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them.

There have already come to them reports containing admonishment,

And for certain there have already come to them reports (of the Hereafter and former peoples) wherein is ample warning to deter (them from their ways).

And certainly there has already come to them the important accounts (concerning the fate of the ancients) in which there is provision of abstaining (from obstinately following the wrong course).

And had (E) come to them from the information/news what in it (is) prevention/deterrence .

And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them.

And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is a deterrent,

And indeed there has come to them news (in this Quran) wherein there is (enough warning) to check (them from evil),

While you sport?

And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention--

And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter,

They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom,

Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them

And indeed there has come to them news wherein there is Muzdajar.

there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings,

And there came to them news containing a deterrent.

And verily there has come to them such tidings, stories about the destruction of communities which denied their messengers, as contain a deterrent, to them (muzdajar is a verbal noun, or a noun of place; the dl [of muzdajar] replaces the t' of [the 8th form] ifta`ala; one may say, izdajartuhu or zajartuhu, to mean `I forbade him sternly'; m, `such as', either indicates a relative clause, or it is qualified by an adjective);

وَلَقَدْ جَاءهُم مِّنَ الاَْنبَاء

And indeed there has come to them news;

in this Qur'an, there has come to them the news of the earlier nations that disbelieved in their Messengers and the torment, punishment and affliction that befell them,

مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ



wherein there is Muzdajar,

wherein there are warnings and lessons to stop them from idolatry and persisting in denial
