An-Najm Verse 61

while persisting in heedlessness?

while persisting in heedlessness?

while you make merry?

Why do you pay no heed?

And ye are behaving proudly.

Wasting your time in vanities?

Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment?

Indulging in pleasantries?

And you are lost in play!

while you remain heedless?!

Moreover entertain yourselves (with fun and games)?

And you remain proudly heedless and haughty.

And you are astonished singing/arrogant ?

And you are lost in play!

While you are indulging in vanities.

Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.).

This is a warner of the warners of old.

While you are indulging in varieties.

While ye amuse yourselves?

indulging in carelessly idle games?

while you are thoughtless?

While you are Samidun.

Will you remain proudly heedless?

Lost in your frivolity?

while you remain oblivious?, unmindful and heedless of what is required of you.

While you are Samidun.

Sufyan Ath-Thawri reported that his father narrated that Ibn Abbas said about Samidun,

"Singing; in Yemenite dialect `Ismidfor us' means `Sing for us."'

Ikrimah said something similar.

In another narration from Ibn Abbas, he said that,
سَامِدُونَ
(Samidun) means, "Turning away."

Similar was reported from Mujahid and Ikrimah.

Allah the Exalted ordered His servants to prostrate to Him, worship Him according to the way of His Messenger, and to fulfill the requirement of Tawhid and sincerity,

فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا
