Al-Ma'idah Verse 112

˹Remember˺ when the disciples asked, “O Jesus, son of Mary! Would your Lord be willing to send down to us a table spread with food from heaven?” Jesus answered, “Fear Allah if you are ˹truly˺ believers.”

And [remember] when the disciples said, “O Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send down to us a table [spread with food] from the heaven?” He said, “Fear Allah, if you are believers.”

And when the Apostles said, 'O Jesus son of Mary, is thy Lord able to send down on us a Table out of heaven?' He said, 'Fear you God, if you are believers.

When the disciples said, ‘Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send down a feast to us from heaven?’ he said, ‘Beware of God if you are true believers.’

Recall what time the disciples said: O 'Isa, son of Maryam! is thine Lord able to send down unto us some food from the heaven? He said: fear Allah, if ye are indeed believers.

Behold! the disciples, said; "O Jesus the son of Mary! can thy Lord send down to us a table set (with viands) from heaven?" Said Jesus; "Fear Allah, if ye have faith."

Also recall when the disciples asked Jesus, son of Mary: 'Jesus, son of Mary, has your Lord the power to send down to us a repast from the heaven?' There- upon Jesus said: 'Fear Allah if you do indeed have faith.'

When the disciples said: "O Jesus, son of Mary, could your Lord send down for us a table laid with food?" he said: "Fear God, if indeed you believe."

When the disciples said, “O Eisa, the son of Maryam! Will your Lord send down a table spread (with food) for us from heaven?” He said, “Fear Allah, if you are believers.”

When the Disciples said, ‘O Jesus son of Mary! Can your Lord send down to us a table from the sky?’ Said he, ‘Be wary of Allah, should you be faithful.’

And once the disciples said: "Jesus, son of Mary, is your Lord able to send down on us a table (of food) from heaven?" (Jesus) answered: "Fear God (as He should be feared, and so desist from making such demands lest He punish you) if you are (truly) believers."

(Recall the time) when the disciples said, `O Jesus, son of Mary! would your Lord consent to send down to us a table spread with a sure and lasting food from heaven?´ He said, `Keep your duty to Allâh, if you are true believers.

When the supporters and Deciples said: "You, Jesus Mary`s son, is your Lord able that He descends on us a table with food from the sky?" He said: "Fear and obey God if you were believing."

When the disciples said, “O Eisa, the son of Maryam! Will your Lord send down a table spread (with food) for us from heaven?” He said, “Fear Allah, if you are believers.”

And they said, "We desire to eat there from that our heart may be at rest, and that we may know that what you have told us is the truth, and that we may be thereby amongst the witnesses."

(Remember) when Al-Hawariun (the disciples) said: "O 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Can your Lord send down to us a table spread (with food) from heaven?" 'Iesa (Jesus) said: "Fear Allah, if you are indeed believers."

And when I revealed to the disciples, saying, Believe in Me and My messenger, they said: We believe and bear witness that We submit.

When the disciples said: O Isa son of Marium! will your Lord consent to send down to us food from heaven? He said: Be careful of (your duty to) Allah if you are believers.

When the disciples said: O Jesus, son of Mary! Is thy Lord able to send down for us a table spread with food from heaven? He said: Observe your duty to Allah, if ye are true believers.

(Recall) when the disciples said, "Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send us a table full of food from heaven?" and you replied, "Have fear of God if you are true believers".

When the disciples said: 'O (Prophet) Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send down to us a table from heaven' He replied: 'Have fear of Allah, if you are believers'

(Remember) when Al-Hawariyun said: "O `Isa, son of Maryam! Can your Lord send down to us a Ma'idah from heaven" `Isa said: "Have Taqwa of Allah, if you are indeed believers."

When the disciples said, "O Jesus, son of Mary! Can your Lord send down to us from heaven a table spread with food?" He replied, "Have fear of God, if you are true believers."

“And when the disciples said, 'O Jesus son of Mary, is your Lord able to bring down for us a feast from heaven?' He said, 'Fear God, if you are believers.'“

Mention, when the disciples said, `O Jesus, son of Mary, is your Lord able, that is, would He (a variant reading has hal tastat`a rabbaka, `Are you able to ask of Him?') to send down on us a Table from the heaven?' He, Jesus, said, to them; `Fear God, when you request signs, if you are believers'.

Sending Down the Ma'idah

This is the story of the Ma'idah, the name of which this Surah bears, Surah Al-Ma'idah.

This is also among the favors that Allah granted His servant and Messenger, `Isa, accepting his request to send the Ma'idah down, and doing so as clear proof and unequivocal evidence.

Allah said,

إِذْ قَالَ الْحَوَارِيُّونَ

(Remember) when Al-Hawaryun said...

the disciples of `Isa said,

يَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ هَلْ يَسْتَطِيعُ رَبُّكَ أَن يُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْنَا مَأيِدَةً مِّنَ السَّمَاء

O `Isa, son of Maryam! Can your Lord send down to us a Ma'idah from heaven!

The Ma'idah is the table that has food on it.

Some scholars said that;

the disciples requested this table because they were poor and deprived. So they asked `Isa to supplicate to Allah to send a table of food down to them that they could eat from every day and thus be more able to perform the acts of worship.

قَالَ اتَّقُواْ اللّهَ إِن كُنتُم مُّوْمِنِينَ



`Isa said;"Have Taqwa of Allah, if you are indeed believers."

`Isa answered them by saying, `Have Taqwa of Allah! And do not ask for this, for it may become a trial for you, but trust in Allah for your provisions, if you are truly believers.
