يَّسْمَعُ اٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ يُصِرُّ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَاَنْ لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَاۚ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ اَلِيْمٍ ( الجاثية: ٨ )

Who hears
āyāti
ءَايَٰتِ

l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
tut'lā
تُتْلَىٰ
recited
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ

thumma
ثُمَّ

yuṣirru
يُصِرُّ
persists
mus'takbiran
مُسْتَكْبِرًا
arrogantly
ka-an
كَأَن
as if
lam
لَّمْ
not
yasmaʿhā
يَسْمَعْهَاۖ
he heard them
fabashir'hu
فَبَشِّرْهُ
So give him tidings
biʿadhābin
بِعَذَابٍ
(of) a punishment
alīmin
أَلِيمٍ
painful
Yasma'u Aayaatil laahi tutlaa 'alaihi summa yusirru mustakbiran ka-al lam yasma'haa fabashshirhu bi'azaabin aleem (al-Jāthiyah 45:8)
Sahih International:
Who hears the verses of Allah recited to him, then persists arrogantly as if he had not heard them. So give him tidings of a painful punishment. (Al-Jathiyah [45] : 8)
1 Mufti Taqi Usmani
who hears Allah’s verses being recited to him, then he remains adamant out of arrogance, as if he never heard them. So give him the ‘good news’ of a painful punishment.
