وَاِذَا بُشِّرَ اَحَدُهُمْ بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحْمٰنِ مَثَلًا ظَلَّ وَجْهُهٗ مُسْوَدًّا وَّهُوَ كَظِيْمٌ ( الزخرف: ١٧ )
wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when

is given good news
aḥaduhum
أَحَدُهُم
(to) one of them
bimā
بِمَا
of what
ḍaraba
ضَرَبَ
he sets up
lilrraḥmāni
لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ
for the Most Gracious
mathalan
مَثَلًا
(as) a likeness
ẓalla
ظَلَّ
becomes
wajhuhu
وَجْهُهُۥ
his face
mus'waddan
مُسْوَدًّا
dark
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
and he
kaẓīmun
كَظِيمٌ
(is) filled with grief
Wa izaa bushshira ahaduhum bimaa daraba lir Rahmaani masalan zalla wajhuhoo muswaddanw wa hua kazeem (az-Zukhruf 43:17)
Sahih International:
And when one of them is given good tidings of that which he attributes to the Most Merciful in comparison [i.e., a daughter], his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief. (Az-Zukhruf [43] : 17)

When one of them is given the good news of (the birth of) that which he has attributed to RaHmān (i.e. the daughters), his face turns black, and he becomes choked with sorrow.
