أَلَمْ
Do not
يَرَوْا۟
they see
كَمْ
how many
أَهْلَكْنَا
We destroyed
قَبْلَهُم
before them
مِّنَ
of
ٱلْقُرُونِ
the generations?
أَنَّهُمْ
That they
إِلَيْهِمْ
to them
لَا
will not return
يَرْجِعُونَ
will not return

Alam yaraw kam ahlak naa qablahum minal qurooni annahum ilaihim laa yarji'oon

Have they not considered how many generations We destroyed before them – that they to them will not return?

Tafsir

وَإِن
And surely
كُلٌّ
all
لَّمَّا
then
جَمِيعٌ
together
لَّدَيْنَا
before Us
مُحْضَرُونَ
(will be) brought

Wa in kullul lammaa jamee'ul-ladainaa muhdaroon

And indeed, all of them will yet be brought present before Us.

Tafsir

وَءَايَةٌ
And a Sign
لَّهُمُ
for them
ٱلْأَرْضُ
(is) the earth
ٱلْمَيْتَةُ
dead
أَحْيَيْنَٰهَا
We give it life
وَأَخْرَجْنَا
and We bring forth
مِنْهَا
from it
حَبًّا
grain
فَمِنْهُ
and from it
يَأْكُلُونَ
they eat

Wa Aayatul lahumul ardul maitatu ahyainaahaa wa akhrajnaa minhaa habban faminhu yaakuloon

And a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought it to life and brought forth from it grain, and from it they eat.

Tafsir

وَجَعَلْنَا
And We placed
فِيهَا
therein
جَنَّٰتٍ
gardens
مِّن
of
نَّخِيلٍ
date-palms
وَأَعْنَٰبٍ
and grapevines
وَفَجَّرْنَا
and We caused to gush forth
فِيهَا
in it
مِنَ
of
ٱلْعُيُونِ
the springs

Wa ja'alnaa feehaa jannaatim min nakheelinw wa a'naabinw wa fajjarnaa feeha minal 'uyoon

And We placed therein gardens of palm trees and grapevines and caused to burst forth therefrom some springs –

Tafsir

لِيَأْكُلُوا۟
That they may eat
مِن
of
ثَمَرِهِۦ
its fruit
وَمَا
And not
عَمِلَتْهُ
made it
أَيْدِيهِمْۖ
their hands
أَفَلَا
So will not
يَشْكُرُونَ
they be grateful?

Liyaakuloo min samarihee wa maa 'amilat-hu aideehim; afalaa yashkuroon

That they may eat of His fruit. And their hands have not produced it, so will they not be grateful?

Tafsir

سُبْحَٰنَ
Glory be
ٱلَّذِى
(to) the One Who
خَلَقَ
created
ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ
(in) pairs
كُلَّهَا
all
مِمَّا
of what
تُنۢبِتُ
grows
ٱلْأَرْضُ
the earth
وَمِنْ
and of
أَنفُسِهِمْ
themselves
وَمِمَّا
and of what
لَا
not
يَعْلَمُونَ
they know

Subhaanal lazee khalaqal azwaaja kullahaa mimmaa tumbitul ardu wa min anfusihim wa mimmaa laa ya'lamoon

Exalted is He who created all pairs – from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know.

Tafsir

وَءَايَةٌ
And a Sign
لَّهُمُ
for them
ٱلَّيْلُ
(is) the night
نَسْلَخُ
We withdraw
مِنْهُ
from it
ٱلنَّهَارَ
the day
فَإِذَا
Then behold!
هُم
They
مُّظْلِمُونَ
(are) those in darkness

Wa Aayatul lahumul lailu naslakhu minhun nahaara fa-izaa hum muzlimoon

And a sign for them is the night. We remove from it the [light of] day, so they are [left] in darkness.

Tafsir

وَٱلشَّمْسُ
And the sun
تَجْرِى
runs
لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ
to a term appointed
لَّهَاۚ
for it
ذَٰلِكَ
That
تَقْدِيرُ
(is the) Decree
ٱلْعَزِيزِ
(of) the All-Mighty
ٱلْعَلِيمِ
the All-Knowing

Wash-shamsu tajree limustaqarril lahaa; zaalika taqdeerul 'Azeezil Aleem

And the sun runs [on course] toward its stopping point. That is the determination of the Exalted in Might, the Knowing.

Tafsir

وَٱلْقَمَرَ
And the moon -
قَدَّرْنَٰهُ
We have ordained for it
مَنَازِلَ
phases
حَتَّىٰ
until
عَادَ
it returns
كَٱلْعُرْجُونِ
like the date stalk
ٱلْقَدِيمِ
the old

Walqamara qaddarnaahu manaazila hattaa 'aada kal'ur joonil qadeem

And the moon – We have determined for it phases, until it returns [appearing] like the old date stalk.

Tafsir

لَا
Not
ٱلشَّمْسُ
the sun
يَنۢبَغِى
is permitted
لَهَآ
for it -
أَن
that
تُدْرِكَ
it overtakes
ٱلْقَمَرَ
the moon
وَلَا
and not
ٱلَّيْلُ
the night
سَابِقُ
(can) outstrip
ٱلنَّهَارِۚ
the day
وَكُلٌّ
but all
فِى
in
فَلَكٍ
an orbit
يَسْبَحُونَ
they are floating

Lash shamsu yambaghee lahaaa an tudrikal qamara wa lal lailu saabiqun nahaar; wa kullun fee falaki yasbahoon

It is not allowable [i.e., possible] for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming.
