Ar-Rum Verse 49

although they had utterly lost hope just before it was sent down to them.

although they had lost all hope before it was sent down to them.

although before it was sent down on them before that they had been in despair.

though before it is sent they may have lost all hope.

Even though before it was sent down upon them, before that, they were surely despairing.

Even though, before they received (the rain) - just before this - they were dumb with despair!

although before that they were given to despair.

Although before it came down they were despondent.

Although they had lost hope before it was sent down upon them.

and indeed they had been despondent earlier, before it was sent down upon them.

Even though a short while before, just before it was sent down upon them, they had been in despair.

Though shortly before it was sent down upon them they were in a state of despondency.

And that truly they were from before that (E) it be made to descend on them, from before it, confused/dumbfounded (E).

Although they had lost hope before it was sent down upon them.

Allah is he Who sends forth the winds so they raise a cloud, then He spreads it forth in the sky as He pleases, and He breaks it up so that you see the rain coming forth from within it; then when He causes it to fall upon whom He pleases of His servants, lo! They rejoice;

And verily before that (rain), just before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair!

And certainly We sent before thee messengers to their people, so they came to them with clear arguments, then We punished those who were guilty. And to help believers is ever incumbent on Us.

Though they were before this, before it was sent down upon them, confounded in sure despair.

Though before that, even before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair.

at the rainfall, though before that they had been in despair.

though before its coming they had despaired.

And verily, before that -- just before it was sent down upon them -- they were in despair!

though before that, before it was sent down upon them, they were in despair.

Although they were before this—before it was sent down upon them—in despair.

Though indeed before it was sent down upon them, before that (min qablihi is [repeated] for emphasis) they had been despondent, despairing of its sending down.

And verily, before that -- just before it was sent down upon them -- they were in despair!

The people to whom this rain came were in despair, thinking that it rain would never fall, just before it came to them. When it came to them, it came at the time of greatest need, so it was a tremendous event for them.

What this means is that they were in need of it before it fell, and there had been no rainfall for a long time, so they were waiting for it at the time when it was due, but it did not come to them at that time. The rain was late, and a long time passed. Then the rain came to them suddenly, after they began to despair, and after their land became dry and barren, it was stirred to life, and it swelled and produced every lovely kind of growth.
