Ali 'Imran Verse 172

˹As for˺ those who responded to the call of Allah and His Messenger after their injury,[[ The Prophet (ﷺ) realized that the city of Medina became vulnerable after the Muslim loss at Uḥud. So on the next day of the battle he decided to lead a small force of his companions—many of whom had been wounded at Uḥud—to chase away the Meccan army which was camping at a place called Ḥamrâ' Al-Asad—not far from Medina. Abu Sufyân, commander of the Meccan army, sent a man to discourage the Muslims from following the Meccans. Although the man falsely claimed that the Meccans were mobilizing to launch a decisive attack on Medina, the Prophet became more determined to chase them away. Eventually, the Meccans decided to flee and not waste their victory after the Prophet sent a revert to Islam—who was friends with Abu Sufyân—to convince him to withdraw; otherwise Muslims were going to avenge their loss at Uḥud.]] those of them who did good and were mindful ˹of Allah˺ will have a great reward.

those who responded to Allah and the Messenger after they were struck with injury. For those who did good among them and feared Allah is a great reward,

And those who answered God and the Messenger after the wound had smitten them - to all those of them who did good and feared God, shall be a mighty wage;

Those who responded to God and the Messenger after suffering defeat, who do good and remain conscious of God, will have a great reward.

Those who answered to the call of Allah and the apostle after the wound that befell them --for those who did well among them and feared God shall be a mighty hire-

Of those who answered the call of Allah and the Messenger, even after being wounded, those who do right and refrain from wrong have a great reward;-

There were those who responded to the call of Allah and the Messenger after injury had smitten them - for all those who do good and fear Allah there is a mighty reward.

Those who obeyed the call of God and His Messenger, even after they were wounded, and took heed for themselves, shall indeed have an ample reward,

Those who responded to the call of Allah and His Noble Messenger after they had been grieved; for the virtuous and the pious among them is a great reward.

Those who responded to Allah and the Apostle [even] after they had been wounded—for those of them who have been virtuous and Godwary there shall be a great reward.

Those who responded to the call of God and the Messenger after the hurt had befallen them – for all those of them who persevered in doing good, aware that God was seeing them, and acted in reverence for God and piety, there is a tremendous reward.

Those who responded to the call of Allâh and the Messenger after they had received an injury (at Uhud), for those amongst them who did their duty well and warded off evil (by pursuing the enemy forces the next day upto Hamrâ´al-Asad, a place near Madînah), there awaits a great reward.

Those who answered/replied to God and the messenger from after what the wound/ulcer (harm) struck them, for those who did good from them, and feared and obeyed, a great reward.

Those who responded to the call of Allah and His Noble Messenger after they had been grieved; for the virtuous and the pious among them is a great reward.

Those unto whom men said, "Verily, men have gathered against you, therefore, fear them," but it only increased their faith, and they say, "Allah is enough for us. He is the Most Excellent Disposer of affairs."

Those who answered (the Call of) Allah and the Messenger (Muhammad SAW) after being wounded; for those of them who did good deeds and feared Allah, there is a great reward.

They rejoice for Allah’s favour and (His) grace, and that Allah wastes not the reward of the believers.

(As for) those who responded (at Ohud) to the call of Allah and the Apostle after the wound had befallen them, those among them who do good (to others) and guard (against evil) shall have a great reward.

As for those who heard the call of Allah and His messenger after the harm befell them (in the fight); for such of them as do right and ward off (evil), there is great reward.

The righteous and pious of those who have pledged obedience to God and the Messenger, after injury had befallen them, will receive a great reward.

Those who answered Allah and the Messenger after the wound had afflicted them, for those of them who did good and were cautious there is a great wage.

Those who answered (the Call of) Allah and the Messenger after being wounded; for those of them who did good deeds and feared Allah, there is a great reward.

Those who responded to the call of God and the Messenger, despite their having received an injury, and such of them as did good deeds and feared God, shall have a great reward.

Those who responded to God and the Messenger, despite the persecution they had suffered. For the virtuous and the pious among them is a great reward.

Those who (alladhna, is the subject) responded to God and the Messenger, [to] his call to set out for battle; when Ab Sufyn and his companions wanted to resume [hostilities] they agreed with the Prophet (s) that the encounter would be at the [annual] market-fair of Badr a year from the date of Uhud; after the wounds had afflicted them, at Uhud -- (the predicate of the subject [alladhna] is [what follows]) for all those who were virtuous, by obeying him, and feared, to disobey him, shall be a great wage, namely, Paradise.

الَّذِينَ اسْتَجَابُواْ لِلّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ مِن بَعْدِ مَأ أَصَابَهُمُ الْقَرْحُ

Those who answered (the Call of) Allah and the Messenger after being wounded,

This occurred on the day of Hamra' Al-Asad. After the idolators defeated the Muslims (at Uhud), they started on their way back home, but soon they were concerned because they did not finish off the Muslims in Al-Madinah, so they set out to make that battle the final one. When the Messenger of Allah got news of this, he commanded the Muslims to march to meet the disbelievers, to bring fear to their hearts and to demonstrate that the Muslims still had strength to fight.

The Prophet only allowed those who were present during Uhud to accompany him, except for Jabir bin Abdullah Al-Ansari, as we will mention. The Muslims mobilized, even though they were still suffering from their injuries, in obedience to Allah and His Messenger.

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Ikrimah said,

"When the idolators returned (towards Makkah) after Uhud, they said, `You neither killed Muhammad nor collected female captives. Woe to you for what you did. Let us go back.'

When the Messenger of Allah heard this news, he mobilized the Muslim forces, and they marched until they reached Hamra Al-Asad.

The idolators said, `Rather, we will meet next year', and the Messenger of Allah went back (to Al-Madinah), and this was considered a Ghazwah (battle). Allah sent down,

الَّذِينَ اسْتَجَابُواْ لِلّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ مِن بَعْدِ مَأ أَصَابَهُمُ الْقَرْحُ

لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُواْ مِنْهُمْ وَاتَّقَواْ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ



Those who answered (the Call of) Allah and the Messenger after being wounded; for those of them who did good deeds and feared Allah, there is a great reward.

Al-Bukhari recorded that Aishah said to Urwah about the Ayah;
الَّذِينَ اسْتَجَابُواْ لِلّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ
(Those who answered (the Call of) Allah and the Messenger),

"My nephew! Your fathers Az-Zubayr and Abu Bakr were among them.

After the Prophet suffered the calamity at Uhud and the idolators went back, he feared that the idolators might try to come back and he said, `Who would follow them?'

Seventy men, including Az-Zubayr and Abu Bakr, volunteered."

This was recorded by Al-Bukhari alone.
