وَمَآ اَصَابَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْتَقَى الْجَمْعٰنِ فَبِاِذْنِ اللّٰهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَۙ ( آل عمران: ١٦٦ )
wamā
وَمَآ
And what
aṣābakum
أَصَٰبَكُمْ
struck you
yawma
يَوْمَ
(on the) day
l-taqā
ٱلْتَقَى
(when) met
l-jamʿāni
ٱلْجَمْعَانِ
the two hosts
fabi-idh'ni
فَبِإِذْنِ
by (the) permission
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
waliyaʿlama
وَلِيَعْلَمَ
and that He (might) make evident
l-mu'minīna
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
the believers
Wa maa asaabakum yawmal taqal jam'aani fabiiznil laahi wa liya'lamal mu'mineen (ʾĀl ʿImrān 3:166)
Sahih International:
And what struck you on the day the two armies met [at Uhud] was by permission of Allah that He might make evident the [true] believers (Ali 'Imran [3] : 166)

Whatever you suffered on the day when the two troops faced each other was by the will of Allah, and in order to know the believers,
