Al-Furqan Verse 62

And He is the One Who causes the day and the night to alternate, ˹as a sign˺ for whoever desires to be mindful or to be grateful.

It is He Who made the night and the day to follow each other so that everyone who wishes may reflect or become grateful.

And it is He who made the night and day a succession for whom He desires to remember or He desires to be thankful.

it is He who made the night and day follow each other- so anyone who wishes may be mindful or show gratitude.

And it is He Who hath appointed the night and the day a succession, for him who desireth to consider or desireth to be grateful.

And it is He Who made the Night and the Day to follow each other; for such as have the will to celebrate His praises or to show their gratitude.

He it is Who caused the night and the day to succeed each other so that everyone who desires may learn a lesson or become grateful.

It is He who made the night and day an alternation for him who cares to reflect and be grateful.

And it is He Who created the alternation of the night and day for one who wishes to remember or intends to give thanks.

It is He who made the night and the day alternate for someone who desires to take admonition, or desires to give thanks.

It is He Who has appointed the night and the day to succeed one another, providing a sign for whoever desires to reflect and so be mindful, or desires to be thankful.

And it is He Who has made the night and the day, one following the other; (He has done it) for (the benefit of) the person who would care to receive exhortation and who would care to be grateful.

And He is who made/put the night and the daytime different/succeeding (one another) to who wanted that he remembers or wanted gratefulness .

And it is He Who created the alternation of the night and day for one who wishes to remember or intends to give thanks.

Blessed be He who placed in the heavens mansions (constellations) of stars, and has placed therein a great lamp and an illuminating moon!

And He it is Who has put the night and the day in succession, for such who desires to remember or desires to show his gratitude.

Blessed is He Who made the stars in the heavens and made therein a sun and a moon giving light!

And He it is Who made the night and the day to follow each other for him who desires to be mindful or desires to be thankful.

And He it is Who hath appointed night and day in succession, for him who desireth to remember, or desireth thankfulness.

It is He who has made the night and the day, one proceeding the other, for whoever wants to take heed or give thanks.

It is He who has made the night and day follow each other for those whom He desires to remember or He desires to be thankful.

And He it is Who has put the night and the day in succession (Khilfatan), for such who desires to remember or desires to show his gratitude.

it is He who has made night and day succeed each other, a sign for those who would take heed and would be grateful.

And it is He who made the night and the day alternate—for whoever desires to reflect, or desires to show gratitude.

And He it is Who made the night and day [to appear] in succession, that is, one succeeding the other, for him who desires to remember (read yadhdhakkara or yadhkura, as before [Q. 25;50]) -- so that if he misses [the opportunity to do] some good during the one, he can do it during the other; or desires to be thankful, for the graces of his Lord to him during both [of these periods].

وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً

And He it is Who has put the night and the day in succession (Khilfatan),

meaning, each one comes after the other, in a never-ending alternation. When one goes the other comes, and vice versa, as Allah says;

وَسَخَّر لَكُمُ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ دَايِبَينَ

And He has made the sun and the moon, both constantly pursuing their courses. (14;33)

يُغْشِى الَّيْلَ النَّهَارَ يَطْلُبُهُ حَثِيثًا

He brings the night as a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly. (7;54)

لَا الشَّمْسُ يَنبَغِى لَهَأ أَن تدْرِكَ القَمَرَ

It is not for the sun to overtake the moon. (36;40)

لِّمَنْ أَرَادَ أَن يَذَّكَّرَ أَوْ أَرَادَ شُكُورًا



for such who desires to remember or desires to show his gratitude.

means, He has caused them both to follow one another to show the times when His servants should worship Him. So whoever misses an act of worship during the night can make it up during the day, and whoever misses an act of worship during the day can make it up during the night.

It was recorded in a Sahih Hadith;

إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَبْسُطُ يَدَهُ بِاللَّيْلِ لِيَتُوبَ مُسِيءُ النَّهَارِ وَيَبْسُطُ يَدَهُ بِالنَّهَارِ لِيَتُوبَ مُسِيءُ اللَّيْل


Allah spreads forth His Hand at night for the one who has done evil during the day to repent, and He spreads forth His Hand during the day for the one who has done evil during the night to repent.

Mujahid and Qatadah said;

"Khilfatan means different, i.e., because one is dark and the other is light.
