يَدْعُوْا مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ مَا لَا يَضُرُّهٗ وَمَا لَا يَنْفَعُهٗۗ ذٰلِكَ هُوَ الضَّلٰلُ الْبَعِيْدُ ۚ ( الحج: ١٢ )

l-ḍalālu
ٱلضَّلَٰلُ
(is) the straying
l-baʿīdu
ٱلْبَعِيدُ
far away
Yad'oo min doonil laahi maa laa yadurruhoo wa maa laa yanfa'uh' zaalika huwad dalaalul ba'ed (al-Ḥajj 22:12)
Sahih International:
He invokes instead of Allah that which neither harms him nor benefits him. That is what is the extreme error. (Al-Hajj [22] : 12)

He prays to someone, instead of Allah, who can neither harm him nor benefit him. That is the error that takes him too far from the right path.
