يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُوْنَۙ ( البقرة: ١٨٣ )

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe[d]!
kutiba
كُتِبَ
Is prescribed
ʿalaykumu
عَلَيْكُمُ
for you
l-ṣiyāmu
ٱلصِّيَامُ
[the] fasting
kamā
كَمَا
as
kutiba
كُتِبَ
was prescribed
ʿalā
عَلَى
to
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those
min
مِن
from
qablikum
قَبْلِكُمْ
before you
laʿallakum
لَعَلَّكُمْ
so that you may
tattaqūna
تَتَّقُونَ
(become) righteous
Yaa ayyuhal lazeena aamanoo kutiba 'alaikumus Siyaamu kamaa kutiba 'alal lazeena min qablikum la'allakum tattaqoon (al-Baq̈arah 2:183)
Sahih International:
O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous – (Al-Baqarah [2] : 183)

O you who believe, the fasts have been enjoined upon you as they were enjoined upon those before you, so that you may be God-fearing,
