Maryam Verse 42

˹Remember˺ when he said to his father, “O dear father! Why do you worship what can neither hear nor see, nor benefit you at all?

When he said to his father, “O my dear father, why do you worship something that neither hears nor sees, nor benefits you in any way?

When he said to his father, 'Father, why worshippest thou that which neither hears nor sees, nor avails thee anything?

He said to his father, ‘Father, why do you worship something that can neither hear nor see nor benefit you in any way?

Recall what time he said unto his father:, O my father! wherefore worshippest thou that which heareth not and seeth not, nor availeth thee at all?

Behold, he said to his father; "O my father! why worship that which heareth not and seeth not, and can profit thee nothing?

(And remind people) when he said to his father: "Father! Why do you worship that which neither sees nor hears, and which can be of no avail to you?

Remember, when he said to his father: "O my father, why do you worship that which can neither hear nor see nor even profit you the least?

When he said to his father,* “O my father – why do you worship one which neither hears nor sees, and cannot benefit you in any way?” (* His uncle Azar.)

When he said to his father, ‘Father! Why do you worship that which neither hears nor sees, and is of no avail to you in any way?

When he said to his father: "O my father! Why do you worship that which neither hears nor sees, nor can in anything avail you?

Behold! he said to his sire, `My dear sire, why do you worship that which can neither hear, nor see, nor can be of any avail to you?

When he said to his father: "You my father, for what (do) you worship what does not hear/listen, and nor see/understand , and nor enrich/suffice from you a thing?"

When he said to his father, * "O my father - why do you worship one which neither hears nor sees, and cannot benefit you in any way?" (* His uncle Azar.)

And mention Abraham in the Book; verily, he was a saint (a man of truth, a true witness), a prophet.

When he said to his father: "O my father! Why do you worship that which hears not, sees not and cannot avail you in anything?

And mention Abraham in the Book. Surely he was a truthful man, a prophet.

When he said to his father; O my father! why do you worship what neither hears nor sees, nor does it avail you in the least:

When he said unto his father: O my father! Why worshippest thou that which heareth not nor seeth, nor can in aught avail thee?

who asked his father, "Father, why do you worship something that can neither hear nor see nor help you at all?

He said to his father: 'O father, why worship that which can neither see nor hear, nor helps you in anything?

When he said to his father: "O my father! Why do you worship that which hears not, sees not and cannot avail you in anything"

He said to his father, "Why do you worship something that can neither hear nor see nor benefit you in any way?

He said to his father, “O my father, why do you worship what can neither hear, nor see, nor benefit you in any way?

When he said to his father, zar, `O my father! (the [final] t' here [of abati] has replaced the [possessive] y' of [genitive] annexation [sc. of y ab]; the two, however, are never used together) -- he [Abraham's father] used to worship idols. Why do you worship that which neither hears nor sees, and is of no avail to you, suffices you [not], in any way? whether in [terms of] benefit or harm.

إِذْ قَالَ لاَِبِيهِ

When he (Ibrahim ) said to his father;

يَا أَبَتِ لِمَ تَعْبُدُ مَا لَاا يَسْمَعُ وَلَاا يُبْصِرُ وَلَاا يُغْنِي عَنكَ شَيْيًا



O my father! Why do you worship that which hears not, sees not and cannot avail you in anything!

Meaning that these idols will not benefit you, nor can they protect you from any harm
