Yusuf Verse 35

And so it occurred to those in charge, despite seeing all the proofs ˹of his innocence˺, that he should be imprisoned for a while.[[ To stop women from being charmed by Joseph’s beauty, or to put an end to the rumours, or to keep him away from the Minister’s wife. ]] 

Then it occurred to them after they saw the signs [of his innocence] that they should imprison him for some time.

Then it seemed good to them, after they had seen the signs, that they should imprison him for a while.

In the end they thought it best, after seeing all the signs of his innocence, that they should imprison him for a while.

Thereafter it occurred to them even after they had, the signs, to imprison him for a season.

Then it occurred to the men, after they had seen the signs, (that it was best) to imprison him for a time.

Then it occurred to them to cast Joseph into prison for a while even though they had seen clear signs (of Joseph's innocence and of the evil ways of their ladies).

And yet in spite of having seen these clear proofs they found it proper to incarcerate him for a time.

Then after having seeing all the signs, they all decided that he should be imprisoned for some time.

Then it appeared to them, after they had seen all the signs [of his innocence], that they should confine him for some time.

It occurred to them (the noblemen and his household), even after they had seen the signs (of Joseph’s innocence), that they should imprison him for a time.

Then it occurred to them (-the companions of the `Azîz) after they had examined all the circumstances and signs (of Joseph´s innocence) that they had better imprison him for a time. (So Joseph was consigned to the prison.)

Then it appeared to them from after what they saw/understood the evidences/signs they imprison him (E) until a time .

Then after having seeing all the signs, they all decided that he should be imprisoned for some time.

And his Lord answered him and turned from him their wiles; verily, He is Hearer, Knower.

Then it appeared to them, after they had seen the proofs (of his innocence) to imprison him for a time.

So his Lord accepted his prayer and turned away their device from him. Surely He is the Hearer, the Knower.

Then it occurred to them after they had seen the signs that they should imprison him till a time.

And it seemed good to them (the men-folk) after they had seen the signs (of his innocence) to imprison him for a time.

Even after Joseph had been found innocent of any crime, the King and his people decided to imprison him for an appointed time (so that people would forget the incident).

Then it seemed good to them, even after they had seen the signs, that they should imprison him for some time.

Then it occurred to them, after they had seen the proofs (of his innocence), to imprison him for a time.

Yet, even after all the evidence they had seen, they thought it right to jail him for a time.

Then it occurred to them, after they had seen the signs, to imprison him for a while.

Then it seemed, it appeared, [good] to them, after they had seen the signs, indicating Joseph's innocence, that they should imprison him for a while, until such time as people ceased to talk of him. He was thus imprisoned.

Yusuf is imprisoned without Justification

Allah tells,

ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ مَا رَأَوُاْ الايَاتِ لَيَسْجُنُنَّهُ حَتَّى حِينٍ



Then it occurred to them, after they had seen the proofs (of his innocence), to imprison him for a time.

Allah says, `Then it occurred to them that it would be in their interest to imprison Yusuf for a time, even after they were convinced of his innocence and saw the proofs of his truth, honesty and chastity.'

It appears, and Allah knows best, that they imprisoned him after the news of what happened spread. They wanted to pretend that Yusuf was the one who tried to seduce the Aziz's wife and that they punished him with imprisonment. This is why when the Pharaoh asked Yusuf to leave jail a long time afterwards, he refused to leave until his innocence was ascertained and the allegation of his betrayal was refuted. When this was successfully achieved, Yusuf left the prison with his honor intact, peace be upon him
