Al-Ma'un Verse 7

and refuse to give ˹even the simplest˺ aid.[[ They refuse to help others with small things like salt or water, let alone alms-tax. ]] 

and withhold even the small kindnesses.

and refuse charity.

and forbid common kindnesses.

And who withholds even common necessaries.

But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs.

and deny people the articles of common necessity.

And withhold things of common use (from others).

And do not let others ask for small utilities.

but deny aid.

Yet deny all assistance (to their fellowmen).

And who withhold (legal) alms and other acts of kindness (starting from the Zakât to the lowest form of lending ordinary things of utility like a needle or a piece of thread to a neighbour).

And they prevent/stop the charity .

And do not let others ask for small utilities.

Yet withhold small kindnesses (or necessaries).

And refuse Al-Ma'un (small kindnesses e.g. salt, sugar, water, etc.).

And refrain from acts of kindness!

And withhold the necessaries of life.

Yet refuse small kindnesses!

and refuse to help the needy.

and prevent the utensils of assistance.

And withhold Al-Ma`un.

Who are uncharitable even over very small things.

And withhold the assistance.

and deny aid, as [insignificant as] a needle, a hatchet, a cooking pot or a bowl. Meccan or Medinese, consisting of 3 verses.

And withhold Al-Ma`un.

This means that they do not worship their Lord well, nor do they treat His creation well. They do not even lend that which others may benefit from and be helped by, even though the object will remain intact and be returned to them. These people are even stingier when it comes to giving Zakah and different types of charity that bring one closer to Allah.

Al-Mas`udi narrated from Salamah bin Kuhayl who reported from Abu Al-Ubaydin that he asked Ibn Mas`ud about Al-Ma`un and he said,

"It is what the people give to each other, like an axe, a pot, a bucket and similar items."
